Zero Gaps

Every developmental stage — imprinting, socialization, obedience, drive, protection — handled by us, in sequence, with no handoff gaps. The most common reason dogs fall short is transitions. We eliminate them.

Starts at 8 Weeks

The neurological window that shapes everything — nerve strength, sociability, confidence, drive — opens at 8 weeks and closes fast. We start precisely here, before most owners have even picked a trainer.

Built to Protect

Protection capability built correctly — from drive development through decoy work and real-world scenario training — on top of a complete obedience foundation. Controlled when calm, capable when it counts.

Works for You

A turnkey delivery isn't just a trained dog — it's a trained owner. Full handler onboarding is mandatory. Your dog responds to you, not just to us, because we build that relationship before you ever take the leash.

The Complete Working Dog — Built From Day One

Every other program we offer starts where someone else left off. Protection Raise & Train starts at the beginning — with us in full control of every variable from the moment your puppy is 8 weeks old.

Neurological stimulation. Structured socialization. Impulse control and early obedience. Drive identification and channeling. Bite development. Full protection work — civil or sport, your choice. Then comprehensive handler onboarding that ensures everything transfers to you completely and permanently.

The result is the most complete working dog we are capable of producing. Not because we're more talented in this program — because we had more time, more access, and no gaps to work around.

Why This Program Exists

Most protection dogs arrive with compromises baked in — inadequate socialization, skipped imprinting, inconsistent obedience. We built Raise & Train because we wanted to know what happens when nothing is left to chance from the very first day. The answer is on this page.

From Puppy to Partner

Every phase in sequence. Every decision intentional. No stage is rushed and none is skipped — here is the complete development journey your dog moves through in our care.

01
8–10 wks
Phase One
Arrival & Neurological Imprinting

Your puppy arrives at 8 weeks — the peak of neurological plasticity. We begin immediately with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) protocols, gentle handling, and structured positive exposure. Every experience during this window is imprinted with lasting depth. We treat this phase with the urgency it deserves.

  • Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) exercises
  • Handling desensitization — ears, paws, mouth, body
  • Introduction to varied surfaces, sounds & environments
  • Structured crate introduction and settling protocol
  • First social exposures — people, animals, novel objects
02
8–16 wks
Phase Two
Socialization & Confidence Architecture

The entire socialization window — deliberately mapped and executed. Breadth and quality of exposure are both tracked. Novel stimuli are introduced below threshold and built methodically. We are building a dog that approaches uncertainty with curiosity, not fear. This is the foundation of every advanced capability that follows.

  • 100+ socialization exposures across all categories
  • Urban, suburban, rural and public environments
  • Controlled animal-to-animal interactions
  • Confidence obstacle work and mild challenge exposure
  • Bite inhibition and appropriate play development
  • Marker training introduction and reward foundation
03
4–6 mo
Phase Three
Obedience Foundation & Structure

Full obedience curriculum delivered as the dog's brain matures into the optimal learning window. Sit, down, heel, recall, place, and off-leash reliability are built with precision and proofed across real-world environments. The dog's growing drive is channeled into structured work. Impulse control deepens alongside command reliability.

  • Full command suite: sit, down, heel, come, place, out
  • Off-leash reliability built progressively
  • Duration and distance on all commands
  • E-collar conditioning introduced appropriately
  • Distraction and environment proofing
  • Structured daily routine and drive outlet management
04
6–12 mo
Phase Four
Drive Development & Bite Foundation

As the dog approaches adolescence and the obedience foundation is locked, we begin structured drive work. Prey drive and civil drive are channeled into controlled, purposeful engagement. Grip development begins with correct bite mechanics from the first session — there is no bad habit to correct later because we built it right from the start.

  • Prey and civil drive assessment and channeling
  • Tug and sleeve introduction with correct mechanics
  • Full-grip development and hold stability
  • Out reliability under drive
  • Drive-obedience integration — working through stimulation
  • Controlled play sessions for drive maintenance
05
12–18 mo
Phase Five
Formal Protection Development

With a fully developed obedience foundation, a proven bite, and the psychological stability built over the previous phases, formal protection training begins with a professional decoy. Civil or sport track is implemented based on your selection and the dog's assessment. Scenario work, threat response, engagement and out under pressure — all developed with a dog whose foundation makes reliable outcomes possible.

  • Professional decoy introduction and full-suit work
  • Civil track: property, vehicle & public protection scenarios
  • Sport track: IPO/IGP phase preparation or ring sport
  • Threat discrimination and controlled engagement
  • On/off switch reliability across environments
  • Long-bite and courage test preparation (sport track)

Final Phase
Phase Six
Handler Onboarding & Turnkey Delivery

Your dog is ready. Now we make you ready. Multiple dedicated handler sessions transfer every skill, every tool, every protocol to you. We do not hand over a trained dog to an untrained owner — that is the fastest way to watch everything we built unravel. You leave knowing precisely how to work, maintain, and continue developing your dog. Then we stay in your corner.

  • Multiple handler technique and transfer sessions
  • Tool instruction — collar, leash, e-collar, protection equipment
  • Command refresh and confidence building under guidance
  • Real-world scenario practice with your dog
  • Written protocol and home maintenance guide
  • 30-day post-delivery follow-up support included
  • Lifetime relationship — we are always reachable

The Complete Delivery

This is what you receive at the end of the program. Not a dog that is partially trained. Not a dog that only responds to us. A complete, documented, transferred partner.

01
Full Obedience Suite

Every command — sit, down, heel, recall, place, out, stay — proofed off-leash, at distance, under distraction, in multiple real-world environments. Not trained. Proven.

02
Protection Capability

Civil or sport protection fully developed on a verified obedience foundation. Reliable on/off switch. Controlled engagement and out under drive. Tested in real-world or sport scenarios before delivery.

03
Trained Handler

Multiple handler sessions before delivery. You walk away knowing every command, every tool, every read of your dog's behavior. The transfer is complete — not theoretical.

04
Full Documentation

Written development report covering every phase, every milestone, behavioral assessments, health records, vaccination history, and your complete maintenance protocol. A permanent record of your dog's journey.

05
30-Day Follow-Up

Structured post-delivery support for the first 30 days. Questions answered, adjustments made, regressions diagnosed and addressed. You do not go home alone with a new dog and no guidance.

06
Lifetime Relationship

Every dog we raise is a dog we care about permanently. Refresher sessions, new scenario training, sport trial preparation — we remain your training resource for the life of your dog. No expiration.

We take a puppy at 8 weeks and give back a partner. Everything in between is ours to get right — and we take that responsibility seriously.

Cedric Jones · Black Ice Working Dogs
01
Full Accountability

When we take a puppy at 8 weeks, every outcome — good or bad — is ours. We do not outsource phases. We do not skip steps because they take longer. Every decision in this program reflects our name, and we don't take that lightly.

02
Foundation Before Capability

Protection work does not begin until obedience is proven. Obedience does not begin until socialization is complete. The phases are not negotiable and they are not compressed. The sequence exists because every stage depends on the one before it.

03
Character Over Capability

A dog with a hard bite and no stability is dangerous. We prioritize nerve strength, psychological balance, and social confidence throughout every phase. The protection capability means something because the character supporting it is solid.

04
Selective, Always

We limit the number of Raise & Train enrollments we accept at any time. Every puppy in this program receives our full attention. We would rather decline an enrollment than dilute the standard. This is not a volume program.

The Right Owner

Raise & Train is our highest-investment program. It is not for everyone — and it should not be. These are the owners this program is designed for. If you recognize yourself here, this is the right conversation to start.

🎯
You Want No Compromises

You've seen what happens when protection dogs are built on gaps — inadequate socialization, rushed obedience, skipped phases. You want the version where none of that is possible because we controlled it all from day one.

🛡️
Personal or Family Protection

Your priority is a dog that is a genuine, reliable protection asset — not a dog that happens to have some protection training. You understand that real capability requires a real foundation, and you're willing to invest in building it correctly.

🏆
Working Dog Sport

You're pursuing IPO/IGP, French Ring, Mondio Ring, or another working dog sport and want a dog prepared correctly for competition from the ground up — not one playing catch-up on foundational deficits.

📋
You're Ready to Be Trained Too

You understand that a trained dog without a trained owner is a problem waiting to happen. You're committed to the handler onboarding process and to maintaining the program after delivery. Your dog responds to you — not just to us.

Long-Term Thinking

This program takes time. The phases run from 8 weeks through 14–18 months of age. You have the patience to let this be done correctly rather than the urgency to receive a dog before they're ready.

Built Right from the Start

★★★★★

We went through the Raise & Train program and received back something I didn't think was achievable — a dog that is completely calm and social in everyday life, and absolutely switched on when it matters. The foundation Cedric builds from day one is what makes the protection work mean something.

★★★★★

The handler onboarding sessions were not optional — and I'm so grateful for that. I didn't just receive a trained dog. I received the knowledge to work with that dog correctly. Six months home and everything is holding perfectly. Nothing has slipped because I know what I'm doing.

★★★★★

We purchased a fully trained protection dog through Black Ice and the experience was exceptional start to finish. Rock-solid with our family and completely reliable when it counts. Cedric didn't just deliver a dog — he ensured we knew how to work with her before she ever came home.

What People Ask

Direct answers to the questions we hear before every Raise & Train enrollment.

Do I need to provide the puppy or do you source it?
+
Either option is available. If you have a puppy from a reputable working-line breeder, we evaluate the pup before acceptance into the program. Alternatively, we can source a puppy from our own breeding program or from trusted working-line breeders we have relationships with. Dogs sourced through us come pre-evaluated for temperament and working aptitude, which maximizes program outcomes. We discuss this during the initial inquiry.
Can I visit my dog during the program?
+
Yes — structured visits are part of the program design, particularly as your dog matures and the handler onboarding phase approaches. We send regular video progress updates throughout so you can watch your dog's development in real time. We do ask that early-stage visits are limited while your puppy is bonding to our facility and routine — we'll walk you through the appropriate visit structure when you enroll.
How long does the program run?
+
The program typically runs from puppy arrival at 8 weeks through delivery at approximately 14–18 months of age, depending on the dog's development and your chosen protection track. Civil protection can sometimes be completed faster than sport-track development. We do not set a fixed timeline and then rush to meet it — delivery happens when the dog is genuinely ready, not when a calendar says so.
What breeds do you recommend for this program?
+
Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds, and Dutch Shepherds are the breeds we most frequently work with in Raise & Train, and for good reason — they have the drive, nerve, intelligence, and handler relationship that this program builds toward. We evaluate other breeds on a case-by-case basis. Show-line dogs of any breed are generally not appropriate candidates. If you're unsure about your intended breed, contact us and we'll be direct with you about fit.
Is the handler onboarding really mandatory?
+
Yes — without exception. A dog that responds only to us and not to you is not a delivered product. It's a problem. The handler onboarding is not a courtesy add-on; it is the final phase of the program, and it is non-negotiable. We have turned down deliveries when an owner was not willing or able to participate in adequate handler training. We will not send home a protection-trained dog with an untrained handler.
How is this different from just buying a trained protection dog?
+
When you buy a trained protection dog, you're buying the outcome of someone else's process — which you have to trust completely. With Raise & Train, you know exactly what your dog received, in what order, at what age, by whom. You watched it happen. Every foundation decision was made with your dog's specific temperament in mind. And critically, the handler onboarding is built in — you're not handed a dog and told good luck. The result is greater confidence, deeper trust, and a relationship between owner and dog that didn't start at delivery day.
