We handle everything else — from selecting the right dog out of proven working bloodlines, to completing the full training program, to placing a confident, stable protection companion in your home. Consultation

We start with a discovery conversation to understand your lifestyle, environment, threat profile, and experience level. This shapes every decision that follows — from breed selection to training scope. No dog is placed without this step.

Dog Sourcing

We acquire your dog from verified working-line breeders and sport networks — dogs with the raw genetics, nerve strength, and temperament to succeed in a protection role. You are not buying a pet-quality dog off a shelf.

Full Training Program

Your dog enters our structured protection training program at our Richmond, VA facility. From foundational obedience to bite work, handler focus, and real-world scenario conditioning — training continues until the dog meets our standard.

Placement & Handover

When your dog is ready, we arrange a structured handover session where you meet your dog, work with the handler, and learn how to maintain the training. You leave with a protection companion and a clear understanding of how to live with one.

Every protection dog we place goes through our complete in-house training program at our Richmond, VA facility. There is no fixed timeline — a dog leaves our program when it meets our standard, not when a calendar says it should.

Training is handler-led from day one. The same professional who builds the relationship, shapes the obedience, and develops the protection work is the one who briefs you at handover. There is no gap between trainer and product.

A protection dog is only as reliable as the handler who built it. We build them right — from the ground up.

Black Ice Working Dogs

Foundation Obedience

Sit, down, place, heel, recall, and impulse control under distraction. Every protection dog must have rock-solid obedience before bite work begins. This phase is non-negotiable and cannot be skipped.

Socialization & Stability

Exposure to environments, people, vehicles, public settings, and novel stimuli. A protection dog that cannot turn off is a liability. We build confident, clear-headed dogs — not fearful, edge-triggered ones.

Protection & Bite Development

Structured bite work, on-command engagement, out (release), handler-focus under pressure, bark and hold, and escort. Scenario-based conditioning against padded decoys under controlled, progressive stress.

Real-World Proofing

Training is validated in real-world environments — not just on a field. Public spaces, vehicles, buildings, night scenarios. The dog must perform reliably outside the training facility before placement is considered.

Handler Transition & Handover

The final phase belongs to you. We run a structured transition session where you take the lead under our guidance — learning commands, corrections, and how to maintain the dog's training once home.

Progress Updates

You don't wait in the dark. Regular photo and video updates throughout your dog's training keep you informed and connected to the process. You watch your protection dog take shape in real time.

Handler Transition Session

Structured, in-person handover where you meet your dog, work with the trainer, learn all commands, and leave with a clear plan for maintaining training at home. You are never handed a leash without preparation.

Health & Vet Documentation

Your dog arrives with current vaccinations, health records, and any applicable health clearances documented. Veterinary care is managed throughout the training program — you receive a healthy, cleared animal.

Post-Placement Support

We don't disappear after handover. We remain available for questions, training maintenance guidance, and follow-up sessions as needed. Your investment is protected by an ongoing relationship — not a one-time transaction.
